Ocean Gravity - Freediver Drifts Through Space

Freediver Guillaume Néry drifts along the ocean bottom in an eerie yet fascinating underwater film

I just discovered this film and was immediately mesmerized by the strong imagery pulling my away from the comfort of what we usually see in underwater movies.

Directed by Guillaume Néry and Julie Gautier, the duo behind Les Films Engloutis, Ocean Gravity is combines a freediver (Néry) with unusual cameras angles by underwater camerawoman Gautier as they drift along a seemingly barren reef.

The emphasis of the film is that there is no up and down and right side up underwater - the ocean becomes a great cosmos with man left to simply float along in its vast expanse.

If you have seen Les Films Engloutis' other popular film, Free Fall, then you're familiar with their imaginative work underwater and during post-processing.

Ocean Gravity was filmed in the Tiputa Pass in Rangiroa, French Polynesia. According to Gautier, the most challenging aspect of the filming process was trying to avoid filming the abundant marine life in the area (sharks, big fish, dolphins, etc).
