The Story: One of the exciting things about blackwater diving is that you never know what will appear from the depths below. On a particular dive off Kona, this beautiful larval fish appeared with its beautiful streamers. At first glance it appeared to be mimicking a Jellyfish. Surprisingly the scientists were able to identify this unknown fish from a single specimen previously collected in a plankton net. This is the first photograph ever taken of a live specimen in its natural environment.
