Canon 60D camera announced
Canon 60D Camera is announced
by Scott Gietler
The Canon 60D joins the Canon camera lineup, in-between the Canon T2i ($700) and the Canon 7D ($1500). I don't see anything that exciting in this camera for underwater photography, other than they brought it up to line with the T2i and 7D.
Articulating screen, HD Video
The biggest new feature is an articulating screen. 1080p HD video @30fps is added, similar to what the Canon 7d and Canon T2i already support. The body in no longer metal, like the Canon 50D was - it's plastic.
As expected, all of the specs fall in-between the Canon T2i and Canon 7D. All 3 cameras have excellents sensors and great video capability. The main difference are in the finer points, like max frames per second and weight.
Megapixels: 18 meg
Sensor: Same as the T2i & 7D
Autofocus points: 9 point (same as Canon T2i)
Continuous shooting: 5.3fps (in-between T2i and 7D)
CNET has a good review of this camera, with it's good points and bad points... they don't think the ergonomics of the body are that good. DPReview says that the new 60D is more of a “super Rebel” camera, not a 50D replacement.
Canon 60D pricing, availability
The camera will be around $1,100 in the USA. Availability date is to be determined.
Canon 60D underwater housings
It's very unlikely this camera will work in a Canon 40D or a Canon 50D underwater housing, so we will have to wait and see if anyone makes a housing for this camera. Due to the popularity of the T2i and Canon 7D, that is not a sure thing.
