Bobbit worm - ambush predator, Eunice aphroditois

The Bobbit Worm, Eunice Aphroditois

The Bobbit worm, Eunice aphroditois, is a ferocious underwater predator. The bobbit worm, also known as the Eunice worm, can be found in sandy, mucky dive sites in many places of the world.

Scuba diving sites where the bobbit worm has been seen includes Secret bay in Bali, Indonesia - Police Pier & Nudie Retreat in Lembeh, Indonesia - and Mainit Muck or Basura in Anilao, Phillipines. This worm likes sandy and gravel substrates, that you would find on "muck" dives.

The bobbit worm has light and chemical receptors that cause it to lunge at fish when it thinks they are nearby. It has 5 antennae that house these sensory receptors.

Marine life conservation

All of us underwater photographers have a duty to get involved in marine life conservation, which means helping raise money for organizations that will help raise public awareness. Please do your part.

Inon Z240 Review

Inon Z240 Review
Scott Gietler

I own 2 Inon Z240's, and I love them. Here's some initial impressions:

Inon Z240 Pro's

  • Excellent build quality. perfect o-ring, nice yellow color so you can see dirt. Excellent battery compartment, this would be very difficult to flood. You can see the oring at all times (clear compartment).

SubSee Wet Diopter Review

SubSee Adapter and Diopter Review
Scott Gietler

The SubSee diopter, by ReefNet, is a wet diopter used for supermacro underwater photography. The adapter holds the diopter in front of the lens port, very close to the port but not touching it.

The diopter (aka SubSee Magifier) and adapter can be purchased separately, but they are often purchased together. The company has plans to offer other diopters of less strength that can be used in the same adapter. Some people have made their own adapter for the diopter.

Preventing camera fogging, dome port scratches, o-ring care
By Scott Gietler

Underwater Camera Maintenance

Underwater Camera Housing Set-up, Protection & Maintenance Tips
Scott Gietler
Preventing camera fogging, dome port scratches, o-ring care
  • Never let your underwater housing sit in the sun, to prevent camera fogging. When in the open, and especially in the hot sun, keep a wet towel over it. Letting the sun hit your underwater case can cause condensation later when you dive, and can dry it out and cause salt crystals to form.

  • Always keep 1 or 2 desiccants in the waterproof housing to prevent fogging up

  • Always have your rig handed to you in the water, don't jump in with it
