Sea & Sea MDX-70D Housing Announced
Sea & Sea MDX-70D Housing
Industry's First Optical YS Converter and other New Features
By Brent Durand, November 22, 2013
SEA&SEA has announced their housing for the Canon 70D, complete with brand new optical YS converter. What is this? In short, it's a converter that attaches to the camera hot-shoe and creates an optical signal for triggering strobes. This means that cameras without a pop-up flash (70D, 5D Mark 3, etc) can use fiber optic cables instead of sync cords. The latter require more maintenance and are more prone to floods and malfunctions. The converter also allows for use of TTL.
Cameras with pop-up flashes (Nikon DSLRs, Canon T4i, etc) can easily use fiber optic cables, however rapid shooting is limited by the recycle time of the pop-up flash. SEA&SEA's optical YS converter is the best of both worlds!
Here are some highlights:
- Converts camera's hot-shoe TTL signal to a light signal
- Using Fiber-Optic Cable II, eliminates the chance of flooding Sync Ports
- Ability to shoot high-speed photos by rapid-firing the strobe
- Higher accuracy than external TTL Converter
- Eliminates in-housing reflections and lens flare by ports
- Works with Sea & Sea's Optical YS Converter for TTL strobe power
