It's been a long time since we've been this excited about a camera... After a month of diving with the Canon EOS R10, it's clear that it is the best value underwater camera system ever created. Now this may sound like hyperbole, but it's important to consider where the camera industry is in 2022.

Earlier in the year, OM Systems released its first camera, the OM System OM-1, after acquiring the Olympus brand. The OM-1 carried the famous Olympus logo across the front despite the takeover by OM Systems. They did, however, let us know this would be the last time their cameras carried the Olympus branding.

GoPro just announced the HERO 11, but is it worth the upgrade for underwater video?
GoPro has just announced its latest model, the HERO 11 Black. The ever-popular action camera manufacturer has bought some significant upgrades over previous models with new aspect ratios, an all-new sensor, and a heavier focus on social media sharing - especially on short-form video platforms for TikTok and Instagram's reels feed. It comes in two sizes, the regular HERO 11 Black size and the HERO 11 Black Mini.

OM Digital Solutions' first camera after buying out Olympus's camera business
In January 2021, OM Digital Solutions announced they had completed their acquisition of the Olympus imaging business, bringing 85 years of camera-manufacturing history to a close. OM Digital Solutions' first port of call was to reassure existing Olympus customers that they would be continuing down the same path Olympus had set out, honoring warranties and orders and developing new mirrorless cameras and lenses.

GoPro action cameras are some of the most popular cameras for underwater video shooters. While they produce incredible footage for such a little package, the compact size of a GoPro does lead to some limitations. The most significant one for underwater videographers is the lack of underwater video controls. The GoPro touch screen is inaccessible underwater.

Every year GoPro comes out with a better camera - often ranking as the top action camera for underwater video. As expected, the GoPro Hero 10 is top notch and a surprisingly significant upgrade from the GoPro Hero9. With higher frame rates, it will be easier to slow down video.

The Nikon Z30 is Nikon's newest release and will likely be on the radar of content creators who value solid photo & video shooting capabilities in lightweight, compact packages. Much like the Canon EOS M50, the Nikon Z30 is firmly aimed at vloggers and other casual content creators and comes with the obligatory flip-out, rotating screen so you can easily film yourself.
But the Z30 also represents a viable option for people looking for a solid, affordable camera in a compact package, whether for travel or underwater photography.
