Could this be Nikon's best macro lens? Sharpest, sure. But is it fast enough?

The Nikon Z 105mm f/2.8 macro lens is Nikon's newest Z mount macro lens for Nikon Z series mirrorless cameras. For underwater photographers who have been waiting for a Z mount macro lens, it represents one of the most exciting lenses in the Z mount lineup. The Nikon Z mount was introduced in 2018 with Nikon's first full frame mirrorless camera.

Finding a good wide angle system for Sony mirrorless cameras has been difficult until now.....

It's no secret that Sony makes incredible camera bodies with industry leading technology. The Sony A1, as Sony's flagship camera, was the first camera ever able to capture 50 MP photos at 30 frames per second. The Sony A7S III and Sony FX3 is able to capture clean, useable 4k/120p video at ISOs way beyond 12,800.

Underwater video lighting just keeps getting better and better. Every year another light comes out with more lumens and features for the same price as the light it replaces. The holidays are upon us! Here are our favorite deals on underwater photo & video gear & travel destinations.

It's the most wonderful time of the year.....if you're an underwater photographer, that is! Black Friday and Holiday deals make a very pricy passion just a little more affordable. Often the best deals are found in the small things like underwater strobes, video lights, and lenses. But sometimes, large camera packages can have incredible savings (like this Sea & Sea R5 package with over $900 in savings!). We've also found some great deals on dive travel so you can put your new camera to the test.

Nikon Z9: Initial Thoughts & Review

Nikon Z9: Initial Thoughts & Review

Nikon is Back on Our Radar

Three years ago, Nikon released the Nikon Z7 and it quickly became our favorite camera for underwater photography. But within two years (a lifetime in the camera arms race), both Canon & Sony had pulled lightyears ahead of Nikon in technological feats. Nikon's Z line of cameras and lenses left a lot to be desired and dire financial warnings left some wondering if Nikon would pull through as a company.

Canon's newest RF rectilinear wide angle lens for underwater photography
By Nirupam Nigam

Canon RF 14-35mm f/4 Lens Review
Nirupam Nigam
Canon's newest RF rectilinear wide angle lens for underwater photography

The Canon RF 14-35mm f/4 L IS USM is an incredible rectilinear wide angle lens that clearly manifests the benefits of Canon's RF lens mount technology. Because the RF mount has a shorter flange distance (i.e. the space between the rear lens element and sensor) and a wider diameter, the RF 14-35mm promises sharper corners than other rectilinear wide lenses on EF mounts. But as with everything in underwater photography, submarine optics are tricky.

The Hidden Gems of Baja California

Signal blennies are an elusive fish. You could spend years diving in the Sea of Cortez and not see one. But if you know where to look, they're everywhere. The gulf signal blenny, or Emblemaria hypacanthus, is an extremely small blenny endemic the Gulf of California. They inhabit small holes in rocks and shells and feed primarily off of zooplankton. Reaching a total length of 5 cm (2 inches) as mature adult, they are quite difficult to photograph.
