The Canon EOS R6 is Canon's newest prosumer level EOS R camera model released alongside the groundbreaking EOS R5. Despite being released alongside a formidable older sibling, the R6 is not to be overlooked. For underwater photographers and videographers that don't need ultra high resolution photos and video, the R6 is most certainly the camera of choice for creatives that need the best bang for the buck in a full-frame camera.

The Sony A7S III is a testament to the fact that Sony truly listens to its constituency. This new, video-oriented full frame mirrorless camera is designed with video workflow and low light performance as the centerpiece of Sony's engineering. A crisp, practically noise-less 4K image can be squeezed from the darkest of situations - where we find that even ISOs of 16,000 and higher are useable.

Snoot photography is about more than just black backgrounds

The Hidden Bokeh Benefit of Snoot Photography

Snoot photography is about more than just black backgrounds

Snoots are versatile tools for underwater photography that allow photographers to isolate their subjects with a dramatic flare. A snoot is a tool that is placed over the head of your strobe or video light that condenses or isolates the light output into a small shape. This allows you to place light only on your subject without light getting into the background of the image. Often using a snoot will result in a nice black background that many photographers crave.

Everything you need to know about being accepted to and displaying your artwork at an art show, including a beginner’s guide to printing and creating your own photography merchandise

Selling Your Photos: Art Shows and Printing

Selling Your Photos: Art Shows and Printing

Everything you need to know about being accepted to and displaying your artwork at an art show, including a beginner’s guide to printing and creating your own photography merchandise

Growing up, I found myself wandering local art shows in awe of the inspiring artists, each in their own colorful booth. It was at one of these local shows where I discovered that underwater photography even existed! Every year from then on, I would return and pester the artist with questions about his work, and the various ins and outs of taking photographs underwater.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Christine Labaza is a materials engineer in the automotive industry and uses her vacation days to travel the world and practice underwater photography. She is based in Southeast Michigan, and trained to become a scuba diver through her local dive shop.

Frequent childhood visits to a yearly art show revealed the adventure and beauty that underwater photography can offer, so she now spends her summer weekends as an exhibiting artist for juried art shows in Michigan. She loves exploring the stunning and strange world below the surface as well as the opportunity to display her photography to anyone who visits her booth.

Why Smartphones Could be the Future of Underwater Photo and Video

Why Smartphones Could be the Future of Underwater Photo and Video
UWPG Staff

People have been talking about smartphones taking over the camera market for years. But will they actually become viable replacements for entry-level cameras, particular underwater cameras? For all intents and purposes, it's looking more and more like this could be the case. Earlier this year, Olympus sold its imaging business to Japan Industrial Partners (JIP).

There's no doubt that the pandemic is starting to take its toll on the underwater photo and camera industry as a whole. From broken supply chains, to layoffs, and a lack of trade shows, it's been a tough year. Despite these difficulties, many of the top underwater photo and video manufacturers continue to work hard to innovate the artform we love.
