An octopus bravely escapes the National Aquarium of New Zealand through a 164 ft. drainpipe

The daring escape began with a tight squeeze through a gap at the top of his tank. Inky, a common New Zealand Octopus at the National Aquarium of New Zealand, must have been meticulously planning his escape for some time. When all the factors were perfect, he flawlessly executed.

9 Wide Angle Underwater Photography Tips

Wide angle underwater photography tips from professional photographer, Craig Dietrich.

I've been fortunate enough to make a living pursuing my two passions:  underwater photography and scuba diving.  Living in South Florida, I have the opportunity for amazing diving in my own backyard, and have also been fortunate enough to travel to see amazing marine life in other parts of the world.  I'm in the water as often as possible, as I know first hand that missing a dive could mean missing that perfect shot.

How to Capture Stunning Splits

Renee Grinnell Capozzola
Tutorial and experiences shooting over-under split shots in French Polynesia and Hawaii

Ever since picking up a camera and taking underwater photos, I have been mesmerized by over-under or split shots.  After all, people cannot naturally see both above and below the surface at the same time, so splits really catch your eye.  I quickly wondered how these striking and unique images were taken - and what I could do to get some myself!

Thousands of predatory Cobia have escaped pens in Ecuador and are swimming their way up to California

Tens of thousands of predatory Cobia fish are making their way towards California, where scientists on unsure of impacts on the local marine ecosystem. Pete Thomas of GrindTV reported the news, which is interesting and scary at the same time. On one hand, you have a group of non-native fish who have escaped and are swimming wildly north, presenting great fishing opportunities for those anglers who find them.
